Happy Easter

Two weeks after the teaser that is Spring Break and I'm longing for summer.  I will hopefully be working this summer, but it will be a relief to have finished this year.  As an English teacher, my high stakes testing period is over.  TAKS and TELPAS have left the building!  Sadly the rest of testing season is just kicking into high gear.  In it's infinite wisdom, my campus has decided to implement some very complicated and out of context programs to improve test scores.  This may not be so disconcerting since much of the TAKS test is out of context.  I know that many are very concerned about moving to end-of-course exams, but I will be very happy to see the change.

Well, it's half over

The semester ends tomorrow and I've only posted once. I think that speaks volumes about how difficult and busy this year has been. The new bell schedule and split teaching assignments have made for a crazy and hectic year.
Today was 1/2 of inservice. I must confess to a great deal of disappointment. The presenters were not the best and the topic was not what I expected. It was not described as a session for sharing our best practices. We were expecting to receive assistance and strategies from the presenters. This of course led to some reluctance to participate from the attendees. Unfortunately, teachers may well be one of the harshest audiences out there. I always feel some sympathy for the presenters at any inservice. We were difficult and acting out today. Not exactly condusive to learning to deal with difficult behaviors in our students. This may be a very teachable moment of irony however.

Now, it's back to grades and lesson plans.
